German three cylinder pacific class 01.10 which was built in the thirties and originally was streamlined. Maximum speed was 150 km/h.
After the war the streamlining was scrapped and they all got new boilers.
This loco, 01 1075, was "retro-converted" to coal firing.
Three of them are still serviceable: 01 1100 (Deutsche Bahn AG, Germany), 01 1066 (Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde, Germany) and 01 1075 (Stoom Stichting Nederland, Rotterdam, the Netherlands). A fourth one, 01 1102 (built 1940) was restored in 1996 and refitted with a streamlined shroud. It has been active in recent years; however the owner was unable to provide all the cost.

German Class 23 two cylinder 2-6-2 #23 023 in the Netherlands. This class was designed after WWII and was the only one to be built in large numbers of all post war designs.
German Railway's last new steam locomotive was of this class: 23 105. Class 23 was designed to replace the 50 years older Prussian ten wheeler class P8. Class 23 vanished in 1976, only two years after the P8 class was withdrawn in 1974.
23 023 was rescued from the torch and kept in operational condition by the Dutch railfans association Stoom Stichting Nederland, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

This photo is the NW Class J #610 which was built during WWII and didn't receive its streamlining until after the war.
The photo was taken from Norfolk Ave "around the corner" from the Jefferson St crossing in Roanoke VA, between 1957 and 1960 since the entrance to the Hunter Viaduct (built in '57) is visible in the background.
The Js were pulled from passenger service in '60.
In the background behind the locomotive is Hotel Roanoke, an NW/NS property and a Roanoke icon that's been overlooking the downtown area for over 100 years.
It was on this same spot that the last Roanoke-hosted National Railroad Historical Society convention was held.
